Chapter 13 talks about getting into the right business while Chapter 14 discusses the impression of increase. Let’s look more into these topics.
SUCCESS, in any particular business, depends for one thing upon your possessing in a well-developed state the faculties required in that business. …The different faculties are tools; it is essential to have good tools, but it is also essential that the tools should be used in the Right Way.
To be rich in a business, you should at least know a little about the business you want to be engaged in. One needs to study the ins and outs of it. Being knowledgeable doesn’t guarantee success, but it makes the road to it easier.
You will get rich most easily in point of effort, if you do that for which you are best fitted; but you will get rich most satisfactorily if you do that which you WANT to do.
People would enjoy the road to riches if they do what they LOVE doing. Tasks become easier and work feels fulfilling. This makes sense. Just think historically of all the well-known businessmen. They succeeded in the fields they loved.
And in so far as your business consists in dealing with other men, whether personally or by letter, the key-thought of all your efforts must be to convey to their minds the impression of increase.
This is basic marketing. You must be effectively communicate the value of your business. First, be a growing force that nurtures and advances the life of others. Then, make it known that your business does this. You must leave a lasting and memorable impression.
Think of why people like APPLE products. They are innovative, stylish and creative. They answer the basic needs of the people who use them. More than that, Steve Jobs, the CEO of apple is able to effectively market these products.
Think of a service like FEDEX. It is, in it’s barest essence, a logistics and delivery service. Need a package sent overnight? Use FEDEX. Throughout it’s marketing campaigns, FEDEX is able to present it self as a company which fulfills this promise. They have an apt motto “We live to deliver.”
If you are able to communicate your the value proposition, people who appreciate it willingly testify to its validity.
Getting rich, then, involves keeping a driving faith to the fulfillment of your thoughts while acting with a definite purpose and a sense of gratitude. Each action is done now - in the present. Each day must be made successful. All this while leaving a lasting powerful impression on value.
