[This is part two of an analysis of the The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles]

The fourth chapter of the book, The Science of Getting Rich talks about The First Principle in The Science of Getting Rich. What is it? Well, let’s read the very first paragraph:

THOUGHT is the only power which can produce tangible riches from the Formless Substance. The stuff from which all things are made is a substance which thinks, and a thought of form in this substance produces the form.

It is clearly stated here. To be rich, you must first Think Rich. Thought is the main power that allows people to create something from nothing. By thinking something, people harness their creative energies to achieve their dreams and aspirations.

On the other hand, negative thought is also the deterrent to success. If you think and feel anxious about money, then your anxiety is surfaced in your reality. To achieve wealth, you must think abundance in very positive terms.

Wattles cautions that there is a certain of way of thinking that must be adopted. What is this certain way? It is a way that focuses on the creative and positive aspects of thoughts. You must feel good and right about what you are thinking.

It is worthwhile to note here THE SECRET dvd and book by Rhonda Byrne, as well as the LAW OF ATTRACTION book by Micheal Lousier. These two sources intensively discuss the use of creative thought to achieve one’s desires. There are even very clear suggested processes in how to make thoughts reality.

That is the first principle - thought. Use your thoughts to drive yourself to money or attract money to you.

Growth and Abundance

The next thing you must remember is that all life grows. It is the nature of all living things to start small, from somewhere, and develop into something more. You, as a living creature, are growing. To deter yourself from your natural tendency would be the stop your own development.

Why is this important? It reminds us that we are intelligent creatures who continuously learn. Every thought you think expands your consciousness.

In order to know more, do more, and be more we must have more; we must have things to use, for we learn, and do, and become, only by using things. We must get rich, so that we can live more.

Therefore the desire for wealth is a natural tendency for everyone. Unfortunately, some of us have been taught that being rich is bad. We’ve equated riches to a negative experience - perhaps because we were brainwashed this way.

When you do your research, however, you’ll discover that some of the best people - the inspirational leaders, were not poor. They were rich. Some came from a hard life but have moved on to a wealthy lifestyle. Wattles himself is an example.

How Riches Come To You

Here Wattles talks about business basics:

Give every man more in use value than you take from him in cash value; then you are adding to the life of the world by every business transaction.

This is a concept that we sometimes forget. Some businesses have focused entirely on the competitive aspect - to defeat the other guy who sells to you. In fact, the core of any business transaction is to provide something of value. If you provide value, business naturally comes.

The example of the Eskimo is a perfect illustration of this concept:

Let us suppose that I own a picture by one of the great artists, which, in any civilized community, is worth thousands of dollars. I take it to Baffin Bay, and by “salesmanship” induce an Eskimo to give a bundle of furs worth $500 for it. I have really wronged him, for he has no use for the picture; it has no use value to him; it will not add to his life.

But suppose I give him a gun worth $50 for his furs; then he has made a good bargain. He has use for the gun; it will get him many more furs and much food; it will add to his life in every way; it will make him rich.

Knowing this basic business principle will lead you to think more about HOW to help people. The focus is on creative (and not competitive) thinking. You now look at how you can give people something of incredible value and get something of cash value from it.

I’d like to add this - we must also remember to find a way to earn passively. This means we provide a regular source of value to consumers. A perfect case is real estate. By providing housing and living space to people, you can get regular, recurring income.

So these have been my basic summaries of Chapters 4, 5 and 6 of the book.

If you want to learn on your own, I highly recommend that you download the audio book of The Science of Getting Rich ($5 on LearnOutLoud.com). Play it on your iPod or MP3 player on your way to the office or while you jog in the morning. I do it everyday now.
